DU women's team in the lead, men's squad 3rd at GLVC Championships

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind.– The Drury women's swimming & diving team is in the lead while the DU men's squad is in third place following the third day of competition at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships in Crawfordsville, Indiana on Friday. 
 
The Panthers women's team won three of four events on Friday and has 1,346 points and is 122 in front of second-place Indianapolis. Lindenwood is in third with 1,216 points. 
 
Indianapolis leads the men's competition with 1,141 points while McKendree is in second with 1,066.5, and the Panthers are third with 1,011 points.  
 
Women's Highlights
Drury started Friday night's finals session with a win in the 500 Freestyle, and the Panthers took first, third and fourth in the event. Sophomore Bec Cross set a GLVC record in the event with a winning time of 4:50.94 while Erica Dahlgren was third (4:52.48), and Allison Weber was fourth (4:54.18). 
 
Laura Pareja, a sophomore from Spain, won the 100 Backstroke with a time of 53.90. Senior and Marshfield native Bailee Nunn won her third individual event of the league championships taking the 100 Breaststroke (1:00.29). 
 
Sophomore Mackenzie Harris finished third in the 200 Butterfly completed the race in 2:02.56. Tabitha Fritz, a junior from Blue Springs, Missouri, was sixth in the 3-meter diving competition and was ninth on the one-meter board. 
 
The Panthers capped the night with a record-breaking win in the 800 Free Relay. Karianne Reinertsen, Erica Dahlgren, Mackenzie Harris, and Bec Cross broke a GLVC record by two-and-a-half seconds with a time of 7:23.49. 
 
Men's Highlights
Drury got a win in the 100 Backstroke, and the Panthers also picked up a third-place and fourth-place finish in the event. Freshman Nathan Bighetti out of Brazil, won the event with a time of 47.39, while Aidan Glynn was third (48.47), and Ahmed Wahby was fourth (48.56). 
 
Drury's 800 Free Relay team came in second as Wahby, Ean Vandergraaf, Bighetti, and Alex Flores posted a time of 6:35.93. 
 
Vandergraaf was third in the 500 Free (4:28.42), and junior Pavel Semochkin came in 7th in the 100 Breaststroke (54.62). 
 
Freshman diver Cole Earl finished fourth on the one-meter board and came in sixth on the three-meter board. 
 
 
The final day of the GLVC Championships is Saturday, and preliminaries start at 8:45 am (Central) in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
