FOUR STRAIGHT - Drury women's swimming & diving capture 4th straight GLVC crown

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind.– The Drury women's swimming & diving team won their fourth straight Great Lakes Valley Conference championship on Saturday in Crawfordsville, Indiana. The Panthers completed the fourth and final day of competition with 1,727 points and edged Indianapolis' total of 1,653. Lindenwood came in third with 1,599 points.
 
The Drury men's squad finished third in the conference championships as the Panthers accumulated 1,299 points. Indianapolis won the men's title for the third straight season finishing with 1,452 points while McKendree was close behind with 1,414.5. Lindenwood was fourth with 1,233 points.
 
Women's Highlights
Saturday night's finals began with a Drury win in the 1,650 Freestyle as Erica Dahlgren set a conference record by nearly five seconds. The senior from Sweden completed the event in 16:42.96 breaking the record set by teammate Allison Weber, who finished second with a time of 16:47.36. Drury's Karianne Reinertsen was fourth (16:59.42), and freshman Marina Amorin was sixth (17:04.37).
 
Bailee Nunn captured gold in the 200 Breaststroke marking the third time in her career she has won the event. The senior from Marshfield finished with a time of 2:12.02 while Bec Cross gave Drury a fourth-place finish (2:16.45).
 
Laura Pareja came in second in the 200 Backstroke (1:58.19), while in the 100 Freestyle, Yasmin Preusse was fourth (51.69) and Caytee Wright came in fifth (51.84).
 
Drury's 400 Free Relay team took silver with a time of 3:23.02. Katarzyna Rogowska, Preusse, Cross, and Dahlgren teamed up for the second-place finish and were less than two seconds behind Indianapolis (3:21.62).
 
The conference championship is Drury's fourth straight, and the Panthers have won the league title in six of the seven years the GLVC has sponsored the sport. 
 
Men's Highlights
Drury's Nathan Bighetti set a GLVC and won the conference title in the 200 Backstroke. The freshman from Brazil posted a time of 1:43.53 breaking the previous mark by 1.8 seconds. Ahmed Wahby of the Panthers came in fifth (1:47.83).
 
In the 100 Free, Oleksii Khnykin came in fourth (44.53), and Kham Glass was sixth (45.04).
 
Drury's 400 Free Relay team finished second and less than two seconds behind McKendree for first. Glass, Wahby, Khnynkin, and Aidan Glynn combined for a time of 2:56.76.
 
 
Drury's swim team will host a Last Chance Meet on Saturday, Feb. 22 for a final opportunity to gain qualifying times to the NCAA-II championships. That event is scheduled to start at noon at the Breech Pool.
