Panthers Close Home Slate With Sweep of SBU

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Drury men's and women's swimming and diving put the finishing touches on their 2025-26 home slate with a dual sweep of Southwest Baptist Wednesday evening at Breech Pool.

The top-ranked Drury men prevailed by a 134-58 total over the Bearcats to remain perfect in dual competitions this season. Branden Lowe was the Panthers' top scorer thanks to an individual win in the 200 free, as well as a strong effort as part of Drury's victory in the 200 free relay and a second-place finish as part of DU's 200 medley relay squad. Yuri Cabral, Max Hagl and Lucas Mendes Alvares also delivered two wins apiece to lead the Panthers.

Ranked No. 4 in the latest College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division II Top 25 dual meet poll, the Drury women registered a 126-57 decision over SBU. Whitney Stortz powered DU's efforts, assisting on two relay wins in addition to an individual victory in the 200 free, while Petra Baumane and Nikol Maniko each produced a pair of first-place finishes as well.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • DU's 200 medley relay team of Sophia Deane, Alyssa Freimanis, Anastasiia Yermishyna and Whitney Stortz took gold with a time of 1:44.76; the Panthers made it a sweep of the relay events with the team of Sophia Kelly, Nikol Maniko, Stortz and Petra Baumane claiming the 200 free relay (1:34.40)
  • Drury's duo of Rachel Omoruyi (11:00.37) and Max Hite (9:43.31) picked up wins for the Panthers in the mixed 1000 free.
  • Stortz captured the title in the 200 free with her time of 1:53.92, while Elvira Lonnberg Flores (1:59.98) placed second.
  • Yermishyna (24.03) added an individual win in the 50 free, with Ashlyn Moore placing second (24.16).
  • Ella Gunnarsson (4:35.54) locked up a win in the 400 IM, while Kelly (4:40.26) placed second for the Panthers.
  • Maria Fe Munoz (1:59.40) claimed gold in the 200 fly, while Freimanis (2:08.76) placed second and Giovanna Morganti (2:16.68) finished third as the Panthers swept the top four spots.
  • Baumane (52.03) logged a win in the 100 free, followed by Moore (52.25) and Leticia Nunes (52.32) to give the Panthers a sweep of the podium positions.
  • Maniko secured a victory in the 200 back with a time of 2:02.02, with DU's Ashley Leader (2:21.73) placing third.
  • Morganti (5:27.77) added a third-place finish in the 500 free.
  • In the non-scoring diving competition, Maddie Rogers took first in both the 1-meter (267.30) and 3-meter (253.05) for the Panthers.
  • The DU men swept both relay events, paced by a 1:31.71 time in the 200 medley from the quartet of Max Hagl, Joao Nogueira, Micah Churchill and Lucas Mendes Alvares claiming the victory; the Panthers' 200 free relay team of Yuri Cabral, Branden Lowe, Owen Crowns and Elliot Weber took the race with a time of 1:23.32.
  • Lowe (1:43.13) brought home a victory in the 200 free, followed closely in second by Weber (1:43.32).
  • Cabral (19.96) notched a win in the 50 free, while Mike Jasinski turned in a third-place swim of 21.38.
  • DU's Ilario Claassen captured the win in the 400 IM, followed by Josh Starkey (4:15.36) in second.
  • Hagl added an individual win in the 200 fly with his swim of 1:49.10.
  • Alvares complimented his win in the 200 medley relay with an individual victory in the 100 free with a time of 45.58; Jake Prevatte (47.12) finished second for DU, followed by Colton Spaulding (47.46).
  • Josue Hernandez-Tellez delivered a win in the 500 free, followed by Lucas Krueger (4:41.94) in second and Lawson Thomas (4:42.83) in third, as the Panthers claimed the top five finishes in the race.
  • Alvaro Zornoza recorded a personal best in the 200 breast with a time of 2:02.78.
  • Carter Austin registered totals of 273.30 in the 1-meter and 323.85 in the 3-meter non-scored competitions.
