OZARK, Mo.— The Drury Panthers banged out 32 hits in two games on Saturday as they swept Wisconsin-Parkside in a doubleheader at US Baseball Park in Ozark winning game one 9-1 and game two 14-6.
Drury collected 17 hits in their first game of the day and took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI-single by
Brant Schaffitzel. The Panthers added three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead.
Clayton Engel went 3 for 5 at the plate, while
Riley Herron went 2 for 3 with two runs batted in and a double.
Ethan Owens also had two a pair of hits and drove in two. Ten different Panthers had hits in Drury's win in game one.
Tom Tewes (2-1) got the victory going six innings, allowing four hits, and one earned run with two walks and nine strikeouts.
Mason Meeks pitched the final three innings for Drury to pick up the save.
Drury scored 14 runs on 15 hits in game two. Herron, a senior out of Springfield-Kickapoo, went 4 for 4 at the plate with three runs, three RBI's and a triple.
Stephen Randazzo went 2 for 6, slammed his first home run of the season, and drove in three.
Leading 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth, the Panthers blew open the lead with four runs in the inning. Schaffitzel, Engel, Herron, and
Jacob Mitchell all drove in a run on consecutive hits in the during the frame.
Hunter Becker (2-1) worked seven innings and allowed five hits in the win for Drury.
Herron ended the day going 6 for 7 at the plate with 5 RBI's.
The Panthers improved to 9-5 on the season. The two games were the season-opening contests for Wisconsin-Parkside.
The two teams conclude their three-game series on Sunday with a game at noon at US Baseball Park in Ozark.
