OZARK, Mo. –The Drury baseball Panthers earned a 4-3 non-conference victory over Missouri Southern on Tuesday at US Baseball Park.
After scoreless innings in the opening two frames,
Nikko Calabro belted one to left center to score
Clayton Engel and
Brant Schaffitzel and get the Panthers on the board 2-0 in the third. An RBI double by
Riley Herron and an RBI single by
Bayler Hinz capped off a four run-four hit third inning.
The Lions were able to scratch across their first two runs of the game on a passed ball and an RBI single in the top of the seventh, then tacked on an RBI single in the ninth to pull to within a run.
Hinz was able to close it out and earn his fifth save of the season and starter
Kaden Helsel (2-1) earned the win and posted five strikeouts in five innings.
Calabro and Engel both went 2-for-4 to pace the Panthers offense who finished with six hits.
At this time the Drury baseball team returns to action on Saturday, March 14 when they will face Southern Indiana in Evansville for a GLVC double header. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
