Bailee Nunn wins national title in 50 Free at NCAA-II swimming & diving championships

GENEVA, Ohio–  Drury senior and Marshfield native Bailee Nunn captured a national championship in the 50 Freestyle during the first day of competition at the NCAA-II swimming & diving national championships at the Spire Institute Aquatic Center in Geneva, Ohio.
 
The Drury women's team is second place after the first day. The Panthers have 111 points and trail Queens (NC) by just four points after day one.
 
Drury's men's team is in fifth place. DU has 61 points, while McKendree leads the event with 92 points. Delta State is in second with 70 points, Nova Southeastern is in third (68.5 points), and Queens (NC) is in fourth (63 points).
 
Women's Highlights
Bailee Nunn captured the 14th national championship of her career with a win in the 50 Freestyle. The Marshfield native posted a time of 22.36 and won the event by 0.12 seconds over Polina Lapshina of Queens (NC). Drury's Yasmin Pruesse was fourth in that event with a time of 23.08.
 
The Panthers started Wednesday's finals session with a third-place and fifth-place finish in the 1,000 Freestyle. Senior Erica Dahlgren came in third with a time of 9:56.67 while sophomore Allison Weber was fifth (9:59.41).
 
Drury picked up two more top-eight finishes in the 200 Individual Medley as Bec Cross posted a time of 2:00.29 and was just 0.29 seconds off the winning time. Tori Sopp was seventh with a time of 2:02.70.
 
The Panthers ended the night coming in ninth in the 200 Medley Relay. Laura Pareja, Bailee Nunn, Katarzyn Rogowska, and Yasmin Preusse had a time of 1:40.37 in a highly-competitive relay to finish less than one second off of the winning pace set by Queens (NC) at 1:39.59.
 
Men's Highlights
Lucas Lima finished eighth in the 1,000 Freestyle (9:10.34), while Andrew Rodriguez was ninth in the 200 IM (1:47.75), and Pavel Semochkin was 11th in the same event (1:48.06). Aidan Glynn posted a 12th place finish in the 50 Free (20.13).
 
Drury's best finish of the night came with the 200 Medley Relay team as Caleb Carlson, Pavel Semochkin, Oleksii Khnynkin, and Aidan Glynn combined for a time of 1:26.38. McKendree won the event with a time of 1:25.29.
 
 
Day two of the NCAA-II swimming & diving championships are scheduled to start tomorrow at 9 am (Central) in Geneva, Ohio.
