SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury University men's basketball head coach
Steve Hesser announced the signing of forward Riley Naeger to the Panthers 2020-21 signing class.
Naeger averaged 17 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game last year for St. Pius X High School in Festus, Missouri, last season. The 6-7, 210-pound forward also shot 56 percent from the floor and went 80 percent from the foul line going 90 for 113 from the charity stripe. Naeger helped his team to a 21-8 record and a district championship in Class 3 last year.
"We are thrilled to add Riley to this year's incoming class," said coach Hesser. "Riley brings our ballclub athleticism and skill at the forward position. He isn't afraid of contact, but also has the ability to step out on the floor and knock down an open jump shot. Riley takes care of business in the classroom as well as excelling on the court, and we look forward to getting him to Springfield."
Naeger was named the Most Valuable Player of the Small School Division in the Jefferson County Athletic Association, was an All-JCAA selection, and was named All-District. He was also the High School Student-Athlete of the Week in the
St. Louis Post-Dispatch twice last season, winning the honor on Mar. 2 and Dec. 11.
Naeger is the fourth signing announced by the Drury men's basketball program so far this spring. Last week, Drury announced the additions of
Ben Palacios (G/F, 6-4, 192, Lee's Summit, Mo. – St. Michael the Archangel HS),
Josh Wallace (F, 6-6, 215, St. Louis, Mo. – Christian Brothers HS / Strength N Motion International Academy) and
Quenton Shelton (G., 6-2, 185, Lebanon, Mo.- Lebanon HS)
Another announcement on an addition to the signing class will follow in the next several days.
The Panthers finished the 2019-20 season 20-9, and 13-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Drury will return nine lettermen, including All-Midwest Region and First Team All-GLVC selection
Conley Garrison.
