The Drury Dozen is an annual list of our favorite moments of the year from Drury Athletics. The list is not necessarily the most significant events, but the special games and moments that we'll always associate with 2019-20.
Â
The most significant moment, obviously, came on Mar. 11 when the sports world stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That halt robbed us of games and accomplishments that would have likely taken up several spots on this list.Â
Â
We can take pride in the fact, however, that even though the year was cut short, what happened between Sept. 1, 2019, and Mar. 10, 2020, provided so many great moments in a variety of sports that it was still difficult to trim the list to just 12.Â
Â
We'll provide honorable mention selections later in the countdown, but, for now, here is our third entry from 2019-20:Â
Â
#10 – Panthers win in OT vs. Pittsburg State
Â
Dec. 22, 2019 – Las Vegas, Nev.
After seven straight regular season wins to start the year, the Drury Panthers found themselves coming off their first loss of 2019-20 on Dec. 22 when they faced Pittsburg State in the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic.Â
The Panthers had to battle through overtime but were able to bounce back with a 94-92 victory.
After a hot-shooting first half that saw Drury hit 20 of 32 shots, including 10 of their 15 three-point attempts, the Gorillas chipped away at the Panthers 12-point lead early in the second half. Pitt State took the lead with 5:28 left in regulation, and the game would go back-and-forth until the final buzzer in overtime.
There were clutch performances up and down Drury's line-up as
Conley Garrison finished with a team-high 21 points.
Cal Hartley added 19 with six three-pointers, and
Brandon Emmert put in 15 while scoring four of Drury's seven points in overtime.
The win gave the Panthers an 8-1 record going into a one-week break during the Christmas holiday.
