We've arrived at number one…for the last several weeks, we have counted down the Drury Dozen – the top 12 moments from 2017-18 as voted on by members of the Drury University athletics media relations team that covered a variety of DU sports throughout the year.
The list on this countdown did not reflect the most significant moments from the year, although the biggest games/events certainly played a part in our decision. Ultimately, these were our favorite moments from the previous year and the ones that we will likely always associate with the 2017-18 sports season.
#1 – Alice Heinzler's 41 points vs William Jewell
It was a historic performance in front of one of the largest crowds in the history of the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
Alice Heinzler set Drury's single-game scoring record with 41 points and set a new program mark for three-pointers made in a single game with nine in front of more than 3,000 fans at the O' in a 101-46 win over William Jewell.
By halftime, Heinzler had 22 points on 7 of 9 shooting from the field and didn't cool off in the second half. She ended up hitting 13 of her 17 shots from the field, 9 of her 13 three-point tries and went 6 for 6 from the free throw line. Her 41 points came in just 31 minutes of playing time and she also managed five steals and two assists.
Heinzler's performance wasn't the only historic moment of the afternoon. Drury's victory that day was the 100th career win for
Molly Miller, who reached the win total in only her 115th game as a collegiate head coach.
