HAMMOND, Ind.— The Drury Panthers opened the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament with a five-set loss to Davenport on Friday at the Hammond Sportsplex in Hammond, Indiana.
Drury fell to 11-8, while Davenport went to 9-9.
The Panthers battled from two sets down to force a fifth set. Drury fell 25-17 in the opening set, then 25-16 in the second. After winning the third set 25-21, the Panthers stayed alive with a 27-25 win in the fourth. Davenport built a 10-2 lead in the fifth set, though, on their way to clinching the win, 15-8.
Juliana Squire led Drury with 11 kills and 14 digs, while
Taylor Forth added 10 kills, six block assists, and a solo block.
Chloe Rear contributed 31 assists.
Hayley Kreiger had a game-high 23 kills for Davenport. Davenport served up 16 aces to Drury's two.
The Panthers return to action for two matches tomorrow in the event. Drury will take on Parkside at 9:30 am, then will face Malone at 4 pm. The Midwest Region Crossover features games against the three leagues in the region, the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, and the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
