Southern Indiana snaps Drury's eight-game winning streak

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Drury had their eight-game winning streak snapped, and they fell in conference play for the first time this year in a 2-1 loss to Southern Indiana at Harrison Stadium on Friday.

The Panthers went to 10-2 and 8-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Screaming Eagles lifted their record to 6-4-2 and 4-4-1 in the GLVC.

Drury surrendered their first goal in four games in the 28th minute when Kaitlyn Andres put a shot in the lower right corner of the net on an assist from Madison Crawford.

The Panthers knotted the game less than five minutes later, though. Southern Indiana goalkeeper Maya Etienne came out of the net to field the ball, and Drury forward Elsa Gonzalez got around her and put a shot in an empty net to tie the game. It was Gonzalez's eighth goal of the season and her fourth straight game with a goal.

The Screaming Eagles got the game-winner in the 76th minute as Crawford scored on a corner kick to give Southern Indiana a 2-1 lead.

The USI defense held off the Panthers down the stretch as both teams were limited to seven shots each.

Drury is back at home on Sunday when they host McKendree at noon at Harrison Stadium.
