SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Drury held off a late charge from McKendree to win 2-1 on Sunday at Harrison Stadium in Springfield.
The Panthers improved to 7-4-2 and 7-1-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Bearcats dropped to 7-3-3 and 7-3-1 in the GLVC.
Drury got on the board in the first half on a goal by
Jamie O'Brien in the 27
th minute. The senior from Darlington, England, notched his eighth score of the season and got assists from
Jung So and
Lucas Schreiber. Schreiber then gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead early in the second half when he beat two defenders on the left wing and fired a shot in the upper right corner of the net for his first goal of the year.
McKendree pulled within one in the 61
st minute when Findlay Cook deflected in a goal on an assist from Hampus Filipsson.
Drury hung on from there as
Yannick Lamers saw 11 shots and made three saves in the win, while Bearcats goalkeeper Alvaro Cortazar stopped a pair of shots in the loss.
The Panthers travel to Lewis for their next game. Game time is at 3 pm in Romeoville, Illinois.
