Indianapolis converts overtime penalty kick to edge Panthers

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Indianapolis midfielder Maria Herrero scored on a penalty kick seven minutes into overtime to defeat 24th ranked Drury 1-0 on Sunday in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Panthers fell to 10-4-1 and 8-3-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Greyhounds raised their record to 9-2-2 and 7-2-2 in the GLVC.

Drury and UIndy battled to a scoreless first half, and the game stayed deadlocked at the end of regulation. The Panthers outshot the Greyhounds 9-4 through 90 minutes, but Indianapolis got an opportunity for the game-winning goal drawing a foul in the penalty area in the 97th minute. Herrero then scored on the penalty kick for her fourth goal of the season.

Drury will play twice at home for the final week of the regular season. The Panthers host Quincy for a 10 am start on Friday, then Illinois Springfield on Oct. 31 at noon at Harrison Stadium.
