Panthers take on Saginaw Valley St. in Second Round
The Drury Panthers will take on Saginaw Valley State in the second round of the NCAA-II Tournament on Saturday at 11 am in Ashland, Ohio.

Drury, the number seven seed in the Midwest Regional, advanced with a 1-0 win in double-overtime at second-seeded and 15th ranked Ashland on Thursday in the opening round. The Panthers are 16-4-1 and have won four straight postseason games, having won three straight in the GLVC Tournament Nov. 7-14.

Saginaw Valley State is seeded sixth in the region and reached the second round with a win over Ferris State in a game decided by penalty kicks. The two teams played to a scoreless tie through two overtimes; then the Cardinals won 3-0 on PK's. Saginaw Valley State is 13-5-3 and went 9-4-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference.

Drury is led by Elsa Gonzalez, who was named the GLVC Offensive Player of the Year this season. The sophomore from Spain has 11 goals with four assists so far this year. Chloe Cash has five goals this season, and the senior from Nixa has scored two game-winning goals in overtime during this postseason.

Kaitlin Knetzke is 15-4-1 in goal for the Panthers. The junior from Ozark and Springfield-Catholic HS set a program record with her 13th shutout on Thursday, and she currently ranks second nationally with that total. Knetzke also ranks third in Division II with a 0.30 goals-against-average.

Saginaw Valley State is led by Stephanie Strong, who has 13 goals and two assists.

The two teams are meeting one another for the first time since Aug. 25, 2007. The Cardinals won that game 1-0 in Springfield. That game was Drury's season-opening contest that year and the Panthers responded by winning 17 games and capturing the GLVC tournament championship. That year was the last time the program played in the NCAA-II Tournament until this season. The Panthers went to the third round of the national tournament in 2007 with wins over West Virginia Wesleyan and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

The winner of Saturday's game will play the winner of Grand Valley State, the top seed in the Midwest Regional and Indianapolis, seeded fifth on Dec. 2 at a site to be determined by the NCAA. GVSU and UIndy play in the other regional semifinal on Saturday in Allendale, Michigan.

This year's national semifinals and championship will be Dec. 9 and Dec. 11 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
