Wratten's 12 kills helps Panthers sweep Southwest Baptist

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Makina Wratten had 12 kills and tied a team record with a hitting percentage of .846 as the Drury Panthers swept Southwest Baptist 3-0 at the O'Reilly Family Event Center on Tuesday.

Drury raised their record to 18-9 and 8-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Bearcats fell to 10-16 and 5-10 in the league.

The Panthers won the first set 25-15, then overcame a four-point deficit in the second set to win 25-21, and closed out the match with a 12-point win in the third.

"Serving aggressive, serving well, and our blocking was some of what we wanted to focus on tonight, and I think we did a good job with those," said Drury head coach Jenifer Bahner. "But we also did some things on our side of the net to continue to get better, and that's going to be important as we continue in conference play."

The Panthers served eight aces in the match to SBU's one and out-blocked the Bearcats 8-4 in the three sets. Drury posted a .342 hitting percentage on the night.

Wratten, a senior from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, had 12 blocks against just one error and added a solo block with three block assists. Her .846 hitting percentage matches a program high dating back to Sept. 23, 1990, when Natalie Hodges posted that total against Elmhurst. The percentage is the best mark in Drury's NCAA-II era.

Chloe Rear put up 29 assists, while Catie Rankin chipped in 11 digs.

The victory marked Drury's sixth win in their last seven games.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they take on William Jewell on Saturday for a 3 pm match in Liberty, Missouri.
