SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury University's
Will Kuster won the Black Division championship in the 165-pound weight class at the Lindenwood Open in St. Charles, Missouri, on Saturday.
Drury competed in their second event of the wrestling season and saw
Will Kuster win a title, while
Peter Kuster came in third at 141 pounds.
Will Kuster, a freshman from Jefferson City, won four straight matches by Technical Fall in the Black Division comprised of underclassmen, before reaching the championship round. He won the title with a 7-4 win over Hunter Jump from Central Oklahoma, completing a streak of five straight wins on Saturday.
His brother Peter, a junior for the Panthers, finished third in the Open Divison at 141 pounds.
Peter Kuster won in the opening round, then lost his quarterfinal match, but responded by winning three straight to get to the third-place match. He then won this fourth consecutive bout and took third with a 12-7 win over Danny Pucino from Illinois.
"We are proud of our guys and accomplished a lot today," said Drury head coach
James Reynolds. "We had some big wins and showed a lot of growth as the day went on."
Drury competes again Dec. 1 with a dual at the University of the Ozarks.
