KANSAS CITY, Mo.— Drury fell to tenth-ranked Rockhurst in a hard-fought 3-1 contest at Mason-Halpin Fieldhouse in Kansas City, Missouri, on Friday.
The Panthers fell to 2-1 while the Hawks won in their season opener to go to 1-0.
Rockhurst overcame an early 8-2 deficit to win the first set 25-23. The Hawks took the second set 25-20, but the Panthers battled back to force a fourth set with a 25-23 win in the third.
Drury fought off two match points to force a 24-24 tie in the fourth set, but Rockhurst's Kenzie Hines broke the deadlock with a kill, and Audrey Arand connected on the winning point for the Hawks.
Chloe Rear led the Panthers with 16 kills, 21 assists, and 10 digs.
Claire Taylor had 25 assists for Drury.
Kinzie Hines led a balanced Rockhurst attack with 14 kills while Morgan Conner had 12 kills and Audrey Arand contributed 10. Jadyn Makovicka contributed 17 digs for the Hawks.
Friday's game was the lone contest for Drury this week. The Panthers are at William Jewell on Feb. 12 for a 7 pm game in Liberty, Missouri.
