Swimmers Bec Cross, Laura Pareja named Academic All-Americans

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Two Drury University women's swimming & diving team members were named to the NCAA-II Academic All-American At-Large teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Bec Cross and Laura Pareja both received Second Team honors for their work in the pool and in the classroom in 2020-21.
 
The At-Large program combines the sports of golf, lacrosse, swimming & diving, tennis, and wrestling into one category. Academic All-Americans were selected on the basis of outstanding achievement in athletics and carrying an exemplary grade point average.
 
Bec Cross, a junior from Canberra, Australia, was the NCAA-II national champion in the 200 Breaststroke and the 400 Individual Medley. She finished second in the nation in the 400 Backstroke, was part of a national runner-up 400 Medley Relay team, and a third-place finish on the 400 Free Relay squad. Cross was the Great Lakes Valley Conference Swimmer of the Year after winning three events at the conference championship meet while posting second-place finishes in three others in addition to a third-place finish. She also carries a 3.92 grade point average studying Exercise Physiology, Community Health, and Criminology.
 
Laura Pareja earned a national championship in the 100 Back, and was part of a national runner-up 200 Medley Relay team. The junior from Grenada, Spain, also added an eighth-place finish in the 200 Back at nationals. Pareja was a conference champion in the 200 Back, the 100 Back, the 200 Medley Relay, and the 200 Free Relay. She carried a 3.93 grade point average while majoring in Computer Science & Software Engineering and Mathematics.
 
The Drury women's swimming & diving team finished as the NCAA-II Runner-Up for the fourth consecutive year and for 22 of the last 23 national championships, have either won the national title or finished second.
