Panthers open the season with a 2-0 win at Newman

WICHITA, Kan.– The Drury Panthers started their 2021 season with a victory in Wichita, Kansas, on Friday night with a 2-0 win at Newman. The game was the season-opener for both teams.

The contest was halted with seven minutes remaining in regulation due to lightning and severe weather.

The Panthers notched their first goal of the year in the game's 23rd minute as senior Chloe Cash scored on an assist from Elsa Gonzalez. Drury gave themselves a 2-0 lead just before play would be halted as Brinn Cooper, another senior on the Panthers roster, found the net in the game's 83rd minute.

Drury's defense limited the Jets to just two shots, and Kaitlyn Knetzke recorded one save as she picked up the shutout win.

The Panthers return to Springfield to play their home-opener on Sunday when they face 19th ranked Delta State at 3 pm at Harrison Stadium.
