The Drury men's ice hockey team traveled to Shreveport, LA for the first road series in program history with three games at the historic Hirsch Memorial Coliseum against East Texas Baptist University (ETBU). In the three-game road series, the Panthers faced an undefeated ETBU team with one of the most potent offenses in ACHA Division II that outscored opponents 45-1 in the Tigers' first three games of the season.Â

ETBU opened scoring 5:03 into the first period with a quick strike on the Drury net and added another tally 3 minutes later to go up 2-0 early in the game. The fast-pace, hard-hitting first period concluded with the two teams exchanging power play goals.Â
Reily O'Connor found the back of the net from
Louis Fournier and
Cody Lourenco at the 12:11 mark of the period. ETBU closed out the opening period with a power play goal with a goal at the 18:28 mark.

The high-powered ETBU offense stretched the lead in a penalty-filled second period. ETBU scored two short-handed goals and a power play tally to make it 6-1 after 40 minutes.  The Panthers couldn't capitalize on chances in the third period while the Tigers added a goal midway through the final frame to end the game 7-1.  East Texas outshot Drury 39-22 in the game

Saturday afternoon's game started with a tight checking game that saw both teams limit shot opportunities. ETBU scored the lone goal of the period with a power play goal at 13:25 on a deflection through traffic. The Tigers added two goals in the opening minutes of the second period before the Panthers rallied on a power play blast from Ben Johansen, assisted by
Xavier Abel and
Dillon Cowles at the 9 minute mark. Â

The close game opened up with a penalty-filled third period that saw ETBU add 4 power play goals. The Panthers tightened the margin with a man-advantage goal by O'Connor from Fournier and
Owen McNamee at the 7:41 mark and then an even-strength goal by
Tyler Caine from Patty Labutis and McNamee at the 10:58 mark but ETBU added a goal late on the power play to close the game 7-3. ETBU outshot Drury 35-22 in the game.

On Sunday afternoon Drury faced ETBU's ACHA Division III squad for a Sunday afternoon tilt before leaving Shreveport.

The Panthers set the pace early, outshooting the Tigers 14-6 in the opening 20 minutes. Lourenco opened scoring at the 7:45 from Abel and
Sam Stack. A few minutes later, Labutis and
Caleb Schmitz set up O'Connor to make it 2-0 Panthers. McNamee finished the period with a goal in the final 30 seconds from Fournier and
Devin Gilligan.

Drury continued the offensive momentum in the second period, outshooting ETBU 12-5 in the middle frame. Cowles netted a goal on the power play from Johansen and Abel to extend the margin to 4-0.

The Tigers responded early in the third period with a man-up goal. Drury ended the game on a pair of goals by defensemen when McNamee scored his second of the game from
Jake Lyons and Cowles and Gilligan finished scoring in the final minutes from Caine and O'Connor.Â
Greyson Skirpan stopped 17 of 18 shots in the Panthers second win of the season.
Drury improved to 2-4-0 with 6 games in 7 days to start the inaugural season. The Panthers return home for a two-game series against DePaul on October 15-16. The puck drops at 9:45 p.m. on Saturday and at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Jordan Valley Ice Park in Springfield, MO.
