Drury ties Illinois Springfield 1-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury scored an early goal, but Illinois Springfield answered late in the game to forge a 1-1 against the Panthers at Harrison Stadium in Springfield on Friday night.

Both teams went to 4-1-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Drury moved their record to 6-2-7 overall, while the Prairie Stars ended up 5-3-6 overall.

In the game's 11th minute, Drury earned a penalty and Jamie O'Brien put the Panthers ahead 1-0 with a shot that found the upper left part of the net. The goal was O'Brien's fourth of the season and the 32nd of his career.

Drury clung to their 1-0 lead until the 79th minute. Max Tweddle tied the game as a free kick created a scramble in front of the Panthers' net and Tweddle banged home a shot that got Illinois Springfield on the board.

Both teams threatened in the final 10 minutes as Drury put up three shots, while the Prairie Stars fired two shots, one of which DU goalkeeper Tyler Frolik made a stop on to keep the game tied.

Illinois Springfield had a 19-6 advantage in shots and Frolik made eight saves to earn the draw.

Drury concludes the regular season on Sunday when they host Lewis at 2:30 pm at Harrison Stadium / Curry Sports Complex.
