SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Neither Drury nor Lewis could get a ball past their opposing goalkeeper on a blustery afternoon at Harrison Stadium in Springfield on Sunday and the Panthers and Flyers ended the regular season in a 0-0 tie.
Drury went to 6-2-8 and 3-2-7 in the GLVC, while Lewis moved their record to 9-5-2 and 7-3-2 in the league.
The Panthers nearly got on the board late in the first half when
Krysten Schuster fired a shot that Flyers goalkeeper Bekah Nielsen made a diving save on with 3:35 left before halftime. Nielsen had six saves, while Drury goalie
Kaitlin Knetzke had three saves. The shutout was Knetzke's 11
th of the year.
Drury had an 18-13 advantage in shots in a game played through a 25-30 mile-per-hour wind out of the south.
Tara Simon had five shots to lead the Panthers, while Cameron Sengstock had three for Lewis.
Drury will advance to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament that begins with the quarterfinals on Sunday. The Panthers are the sixth seed and will play at Maryville next Sunday. The semifinals are Nov. 4 and the championship game is Nov. 6.
