SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Drury and Missouri-St. Louis exchanged early goals in a 1-1 tie at Harrison Stadium in Springfield on Sunday.
It was Drury's third tie in a row and moved their record to 5-1-6 and 2-1-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Tritons went to 5-6-2 and 3-4-2.
UMSL struck first, scoring less than six minutes into the game as Casey Clark put in a shot that found the upper left part of the net with an assist from Karley Kinzinger. The goal was Clark's first of the year.
The Panthers answered eight minutes later as
Tara Simon notched her fourth goal of the season as she fired in a shot into the lower right side of the net in the game's 14
th minute.
Keeley Combs picked up an assist as Drury tied the game 1-1.
Both teams had scoring chances in the closing minute of the game. The Tritons' Ayana Weissenfluh put up a shot with 44 seconds remaining the Drury goalkeeper
Kaitlin Knetzke had to lead to deflect high. The Panthers then countered as
Elsa Gonzalez got past the UMSL defense for a shot that went just off the mark with four seconds left.
The Tritons had 21 shots in the game and Knetzke kept the contest even for Drury making 11 saves. Drury had nine shots in the contest with three coming from Gonzalez.
The Panthers are on the road for their next game as they travel to Indianapolis on Friday. Kickoff is at 4 pm (Central) in Indianapolis, Ind.
