SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The Drury men's swimming & diving team won four of seven events on the second day of competition at the Southern Methodist University Invitational on Friday in Dallas, Texas.
The DU men's squad is in second place among five teams after two days with 559 points. They lead Hawaii's total of 470 for third and trail only SMU with 809 points.
The Drury women's team is in sixth among eight teams at the event. The Panthers have 241 points and are 30 points in front of seventh-place Wyoming. San Diego State leads the women's meet with 646 points.
Drury is the only non-Division I team in the event.
Men's Highlights
- Drury opened Friday night with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. Nathan Bighetti, Davi Mourao, Dominik Karacic, and Kham Glass completed the event in 1:26.03 and edged SMU's time of 1:26.15
- Davi Mourao returned to win the 100 Breast with a time of 53.39
- The Panthers finished 1-2 in the 100 Back as Nathan Bighetti won the event posting a time of 47.01, finishing just ahead of teammate Kham Glass (47.76)
- Joao Nogueira was fourth in the 400 IM (3:51.68)
- Cameron Craig also had a fourth-place finish in the 200 Free (1:37.74)
- The Panthers capped the night by winning the 800 Free Relay by nearly five seconds. Nogueira, Craig, Anisse Djaballah, and Karacic completed the event in 6:27.32
Women's Highlights
- Mellie Wijk was third in the 400 IM with a time of 4:23.76, while Aurora Duncan came in fourth (4:24.52)
- Lexie Waller turned in an eighth-place finish in the 100 Back posting a time of 55.91
- Drury's 800 Free Relay came in seventh. Wijk, Josie Bushell, Ashlyn Moore, and Ellie Walker completed the event in 7:29.49.
The final day three-day competition starts with preliminary heats at 9 am in Dallas on Saturday.
