SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury swimming & diving head coach
Brian Reynolds has announced that Caleb Rhodenbaugh will join the program as an assistant coach. Rhodenbaugh has been a graduate assistant at Southern Methodist University and will replace Doug Schrank, who was recently named the head coach at Rockhurst University.
Rhodenbaugh competed for SMU for three seasons and set program records in the 100 Breaststroke and 200 Breaststroke. He won eight American Athletic Conference championships winning the 100 Breast and 200 Breast three times each in addition to earning titles in the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Medley Relay. Rhodenbaugh was a nine-time NCAA Championships qualifier, named all-conference in 11 events, and was the 2022 Co-Most Outstanding Swimmer in the AAC. He also posted a US Olympic Trial cut in 2021.
Before transferring to SMU, Rhodenbaugh swam for Missouri, where he swam the seventh-best time ever at Mizzou in the 200 Breast. He was also a member of the SEC Honor Roll during his two seasons for the Tigers. Rhodenbaugh helped Rock Bridge High School in Columbia to the Missouri state championship in 2015, where
Zach Mertens, now a Drury assistant, was his head coach.
"Coach Reynolds has been in the game a long time and has a wealth of knowledge, and then to work with Zach (Mertens) on top of that makes this an incredible opportunity," said Rhodenbaugh, who coached against Drury when the Panthers were at SMU in November. He also competed against DU in the same event in 2020 and 2021. "I love the SMU Invitational every year and getting the chance to see the Drury coaches, along with a lot of my friends that swam for Lakeside Aquatics and are now at Drury. I'm also excited to come back to the Midwest and to be a part of this program."
Rhodenbaugh's father, Greg, has been the head swimming & diving coach SMU since 2019 and was the head coach at Missouri for eight seasons. He was an assistant coach at Arizona and helped the men's and women's teams to National Championships in 2008.
"I'm excited to have another up-and-coming coach join our staff," said Drury head coach
Brian Reynolds. "I'm looking forward to having Caleb fill the role that was carried out so well by Doug Schrank. We're very fortunate to be able to bring in someone of his capabilities and enthusiasm onto our coaching staff."
Schrank will assume his duties as head coach at Rockhurst next month as the program will enter its first year of competition in 2023-24.
Drury men's and women's swimming & diving have won 35 national championships at the NCAA Division II and NAIA levels and the Panthers have produced nine Olympic swimmers.
