DU women's team adds to their lead, men's team in third at GLVC Championships

ELKHART, Ind.— The Drury women's swimming & diving team won four of five swimming events on Friday and added to their lead in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships in Elkhart, Indiana. The Drury men's team stayed in third place at the end of the night.
 
The DU women's squad will go into the fourth and final day of competition on Saturday with 1455.5 points. Indianapolis is in second place with 1,330 points, and Lindenwood is in third with 1,145.5.
 
Indianapolis leads the men's championship event with 1,209.5 points, while McKendree is in second with 1,066.5, and the Panthers are on the Bearcats' heels with 1,055 points.
 
Men's Highlights
Drury newcomer Anisse Djaballa was third in the 500 Free with a time of 4:25.05.
 
The Panthers came in first and third in the 100 Back as Mikita Tsmyh won the event with a GLVC record-setting time of 46.57, while Karol Ostrowski was third (46.99).
 
Davi Mourao was fourth in the 100 Breast posting a time of 53.25, and Dawid Nowodworski was fifth (53.97).
 
Drury swimmers were second and third in 200 Fly as Andrew Rodriguez was the runner-up (1:45.75), and James Brown won bronze (1:47.37).
 
Drury's 800 Free Relay team was second behind McKendree. The Panthers had a time of 6:34.30 as Djaballa, Mourao, Ean Vandergraaf, and Ostrowski combined to finish just behind the Bearcats.
 
Women's Highlights
The Panthers opened the night with a 1-2-3 finish in the 500 Free. Allison Weber won the event with a time of 4:53.40, while Marina Amorim was second (4:53.56), and Bec Cross finished third (4:56.05).

Laura Pareja won the 100 Back with a time of 53.44, marking the second straight year she's won the conference title in that event. 
 
Claire Conover gave Drury a third-place finish in the 100 Breast (1:02.40).
 
Drury had a 1-2 finish in the 200 Fly as Rafaela Raurich won the gold with a time of 1:59.21 and Aurora Duncan was second (2:00.82).
 
The Panthers finished the night with a win in the 800 Free Relay. Raurich, Karianne Reinertsen, Josie Bushell, and Bec Cross posted a time of 7:23.40 and won by more than two seconds over Lindenwood.
 
 
The GLVC Championships continue tomorrow with preliminary rounds at 9 am (Central) in Elkhart, Indiana. The event concludes on Saturday.
