ELKHART, Ind.— The Drury women's swimming & diving held off a late charge from Indianapolis to win the 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference championship on Saturday in Elkhart, Indiana. The Drury men's team moved up a spot to finish second on Saturday.
The DU women's team led wire-to-wire at the league championship meet but ended up edging Indianapolis by 5.5 points. The Panthers had a total of 1,878.5 points, while the Greyhounds finished with 1,873. Lindenwood came in third with 1,616 points.
The title marked the fifth GLVC Championship in six years for the Drury women's program and seventh team history in their nine-year history in the conference.
Indianapolis won the men's championship as the Greyhounds finished with 1,643 points. Drury, who entered the final night in third place, ended up in second with 1,461 points. McKendree was third with 1,365.5.
Women's Highlights
Allison Weber opened the final night of competition with a win in 1650 Free. The senior from Marshall, Missouri, had a time of 16:51.19 and won 13 seconds.
Marina Amorim was third with a time of 17:07.32
Yasmin Preusse was fourth in the 100 Free (50.57), and
Morgan Gullette finished sixth in the 200 Back (2:02.10).
The Panthers got a 1-2 finish in the 200 Breast as
Claire Conover took the gold with a time of 2:14.60, and
Bec Cross was second, getting to the wall in 2:16.87.
Drury ended the championship event with a third-place finish in the 400 Free Relay. Preusse, Cross,
Josie Bushell, and
Rafaela Raurich teamed up for a time of 3:23.16.
Men's Highlights
Drury swimmers were fourth and fifth in the 1650 Free as Anisse Djaballah was fourth (15:42.72) and
Ean Vandergraaf was just 0.04 seconds behind him in fifth.
Karol Ostrowski returned to competition this week and won the 100 Free with a time of 42.62.
The Panthers swept the medals in the 200 Back as Mikita Tsmyh won the event (1:43.19),
Nathan Bighetti was second (1:43.44), and
Andrew Rodriguez came in third (1:45.12).
Dabi Mourao was edged in the 200 Breast. Mourao completed the event in 1:55.76 and was edged by 0.15 seconds.
Drury's 400 Free Relay came in second with a time of 2:54.36.
Kham Glass,
Ahmed Wahby,
Tristen Bowen, and Ostrowski teamed up to take silver in the event.
The Panthers will host the Last Chance Meet on Feb. 19 at the Breech Pool in the final event before the NCAA-II National Championship, March 9-12 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
