DU men's team moves into 2nd; women's squad in 4th at NCAA-II swimming & diving championships

GREENSBORO, NC— The Drury men's swimming & diving team improved one spot and moved into second place on the second day of the NCAA-II National Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Thursday. The Drury women's team is in fourth place at the midway point in the championship meet.
 
Queens (NC) maintained their hold on first place in the men's championship with 330 points. The Panthers are 99 points back with 231. Indianapolis is in third place with 217 points.
 
Queens also leads the women's championship with 276 points. Indianapolis is only 30 points behind with 246, and Nova Southeastern is in third with 221 points. Drury has 163 points through two days. 
 
Men's Highlights
Dominik Karacic won his second national championship in Greensboro as he took first in the 100 Fly. The junior from Croatia posted a time of 46.30 to win the event by .04 seconds. On Wednesday night, he was part of a national championship 200 Medley Relay team. Nathan Bighetti came in ninth place in the 100 Fly with (47.09).
 
Karol Ostrowski also captured a national title for the Panthers with a win in the 200 Free. Ostrowski's winning time was 1:33.68 and took first by nearly a full second. Anisse Djaballah came in 15th (1:37.75).
 
Andrew Rodriguez gave the Panthers an 11th place finish in the 400 IM (3:51.89).
 
Drury ended the night with a fourth-place finish in a hotly contested 400 Medley Relay. The Panthers had a time of 3:09.54 with Mikita Tsmyh, Caleb Carlson, Karacic, and Alex Bowen as Queens won with a time of 3:08.07 as five teams all had times within 1.71 seconds of one another.
 
Women's Highlights
Bec Cross was fourth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:18.52 and freshman Claire Conover came in 14th (4:23.42).
 
In the 100 Fly, Drury had Rafaela Raurich finish 14th (54.90) and Mellie Wijk was 16th (54.99).
 
Drury came in fourth in the 400 Medley Relay. Laura Pareja, Conover, Raurich, and Yasmin Preusse, finished with a time of 3:40.58, while Nova Southeastern won the event (3:36.23). 
 
 
The third of four days of competition starts with preliminary heats of the 500 Free at 9 am (Central) in Greensboro, North Carolina.
