GREENSBORO, NC— The Drury men's swimming & diving team held on to second place, while the women's squad stayed in fourth after the third day of the NCAA-II national championship at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Friday.
The Drury men's team will enter the fourth and final day of the championship meet with 385 points. Queens (NC) is in first with 470.5 points. Indianapolis is in third and trailing the Panthers by 47 points.
The DU women's team has 261.5 points to be in fourth. Queens also leads the women's championship with 405.5 points, while Indianapolis is in second with 312 points, and Nova Southeastern is in third with 298.5.
Men's Highlights
Drury had two swimmers earn points in the 500 Free as
Gavin Moak was 11
th (4:25.76), and Aniesse Djaballah was 16
th (4:30.92).
The Panthers got a 2-3 finish in the 100 Back as
Karol Ostrowski finished second with a time of 45.90 and was just 0.08 off of the winning time. Mikita Tsmyh was third, hitting the wall in 46.12.
Nathan Bighetti finished 10
th (46.92) and
Kham Glass was 14
th (47.97).
In the 100 Breast, Davi Mourao finished seventh (53.23), and
Dawid Nowodworski was eighth (53.89). The Panthers also got points from
Caleb Carlson, who finished 11
th (53.84).
Drury had three swimmers in the top eight of the 200 Fly as
Andrew Rodriguez was fifth (1:44.91),
Dominik Karacic came in seventh (1:47.50), and
James Brown was eighth (1:49.56).
Cole Earl was fifth in the three-meter diving competition. The junior from Springfield-Glendale finished with 492.5 points, marking the second year in a row Earl has finished in the top five nationally in diving.
The Panthers ended Friday night finishing seventh in the 800 Free Relay. Ostrowski,
Ean Vandergraaf,
Ahmed Wahby, and
Dominik Karacic posted a time of 6:32.35.
Women's Highlights
Marina Amorim was fourth in the 500 Free with a time of 4:52.83.
Allison Weber came in sixth in that event (4:55.12), and
Bec Cross was 16
th (5:01.33).
Laura Pareja tied as the national runner-up in the 100 Back as the senior from Spain posted a time of 53.05, tying her for second with Celina Martinez of Nova Southeastern.
Rafaela Raurich won bronze in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:58.98. Freshman
Aurora Duncan won her consolation heat to finish ninth with a time of 1:59.16, and
Mellie Wijk was 15
th (2:03.98).
Drury wrapped up the evening with a sixth-place finish in the 800 Free Relay.
Karianne Reinertsen, Amorim, Raurich, and
Fernanda Andrade, combined for a time of 7:23.49.
The national championship concludes on Saturday, starting with the preliminary heats of the 100 Free at 9 am (Central) in Greensboro, North Carolina.
