GREENSBORO, NC— The Drury men's swimming & diving team is third and the women's squad is in fourth after the first day of competition at the NCAA-II Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Queens (NC) leads the men's competition with 181 points. Indianapolis is in second with 154 points and the Panthers have 144. McKendree is in a distant fourth with 79 points.
Queens is also in front of the women's championship meet with 157 points. Nova Southeastern is in second with 129 points, Indianapolis is in third with 126, and Drury's 111 points have them in fourth.
Men's Highlights
Drury started the national championship meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. Mikita Tsmyh,
Dawid Nowodworski,
Dominik Karacic, and
Alex Bowen combined for a time of 1:24.87 and won by 0.32 seconds over Queens.
Andrew Rodriguez was fifth in the 200 Individual Medley (1:46.92), while
James Brown came in seventh (1:47.29).
Karol Ostrowski was the national runner-up in the 50 Free, posting a time of 19.18.
Alex Bowen was fourth (19.51), and
Kham Glass came in 11
th (19.70).
The Panthers finished the night with a national runner-up finish in the 200 Free Relay. Ostrowski, Glass, Nowodworski, and Bowen swam a 1:17.42 and were edged by Queens by 0.22 seconds.
Women's Highlights
Drury's 200 Medley Relay team finished second to start the night as
Laura Pareja, Lexie Basler,
Mackenzie Wieberg, and
Yasmin Preusse posted a time of 1:39.36 and were 0.53 seconds behind Nova Southeastern.
Allison Weber was the national runner-up in the 1000 Free as the senior from Marshall, Missouri, got to the wall in 9:55.10.
Marina Amorim was seventh (10:10.74).
Preusse gave the Panthers a seventh-place finish in the 50 Free with a time of 22.94, while Wieberg came in 13
th (23.30).
Drury's 200 Free Relay team finished third in the final event of the night. Preusse, Wieberg, Basler, and
Josie Bushell combined for a time of 1:32.45.
The second of four days of competition starts with preliminary heats of the 100 Fly at 9 am (Central) in Greensboro, North Carolina.
