SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The Drury men's soccer team is picked to finish fifth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in a vote of league coaches in the conference's preseason poll. The Panthers received a first-place vote and 105 points in the poll.
Maryville received seven first-place votes and was picked to win the league. Indianapolis, ranked fourth nationally in NCAA-II, was picked second and picked up two first-place votes. Illinois Springfield received three first-place votes but had the third-most points, and Lewis was selected for fourth in the poll.
Drury finished fifth in the league last year, going 7-3-4 in the GLVC and 8-7-4 overall. They advanced to the conference tournament semifinals in 2021. The Panthers return 13 lettermen, including All-Conference selection
Jamie O'Brien, who scored nine goals in 13 games last season. Head coach
Ben Taylor returns to the sideline for his sixth season leading the Drury program.
Drury opens the 2022 season on Friday against Upper Iowa at 7:30 pm at the Lake Country Soccer Complex in Springfield.
