SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury started the 2022 season with a 4-1 win over Upper Iowa on Friday at the Lake Country Soccer Complex in Springfield. The Panthers went to 1-0 while dropping the Peacocks to an 0-1 start.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead to halftime, scoring two late first-half goals. Springfield-Glendale product
Mitch Stephens put Drury on the board in the 42
nd minute, tucking in a shot inside the left post. In the final minute of the half, freshman John Adikwu blasted a shot into the net from more than 40 yards out to give the Panthers a 2-0 advantage.
Drury tacked on another goal in the 50
th minute on a goal from Kaelen Debbage, but Upper Iowa answered seven minutes later on a goal from Yannis Sapim. The Panthers put the game out of reach, though, as
Jung So, a senior out of Springfield-Central, found the net in the game's 81
st minute.
Debbage finished the game with a goal and an assist, and Drew Findley picked up the win in goal.
Drury returns to the field on Sunday when they host Northeastern State at 2:30 pm at Harrison Stadium.
