Drury edged in five sets by No. 15 Winona St. and No. 6 Concordia

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Drury went five sets against two nationally ranked opponents on Saturday and had leads in both matches, but fell twice on the second day of the St. Cloud State / Concordia Tournament in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Panthers lost to 15th ranked Winona State in the day's first match, then number six Concordia rallied for a win to close out the tournament. 

Drury opened play on Saturday, losing their first set to Winona State 25-16, but the Panthers took a 2-1, winning the next two sets (25-20 and 25-23). The Warriors pushed the match to a fifth set with a 25-19 win in the fourth. 

Drury trailed 11-9 in the fifth but got back-to-back points with kills by Chloe Rear and Kayli Duncan. Winona State then countered with four straight points for the win. 

Chloe Rear registered a triple-double in the match for the Panthers with 15 kills, 21 assists and 10 digs. The senior also added six block assists. Madison Larson and Sidney Paulson had 14 kills each to lead Winona State.

Drury took a 2-0 lead against sixth-ranked Concordia winning 25-23 and 26-24 in the opening two sets. The Golden Bears turned around the match, winning the next two sets and taking the final set 15-8. 

Rear posted her second triple-double of the day with 17 kills, 16 assists and 12 digs. She added a solo block and two block assists. Kayli Duncan had 12 kills, while Julianna Squire posted 15 digs. 

Jasmine Mulvihill led Concordia with 19 kills. 

Concordia, winners of nine national championships since 2007, stayed undefeated at 4-0. Winona State went to 1-2, while Drury fell to 0-4.  

The Panthers are home next weekend co-hosting the DU/SBU Tournament on Sept. 2-3 at the O'Reilly Family Event Center. Drury hosts Missouri Western St. at 10 am, then Southwest Minnesota State at 5 pm on Friday. The Panthers are also home on Saturday with matches against Lake Superior State and Southern Arkansas.
