SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury went 1-1 in the first day of the DU/SBU Tournament on Friday at the O'Reilly Family Event Center as the Panthers swept Missouri Western State 3-0, then fell to 13
th ranked Southwest Minnesota State 3-0.
In Drury's first game of the day, the Panthers picked up a win over the Griffons 25-19, 25-17, 25-22. Drury trailed 22-21 in the third set but reeled off four straight points to close out the match.
Salma Lewis led the Panthers with 12 kills, and the sophomore from Carl Junction added three service aces.
Kayli Duncan added 11 kills,
Gabby Birmingham had 22 assists and
Juliana Squire contributed 18 digs.
After winning in five sets over Missouri Western, Southwest Minnesota State returned to close out the day with a win over the Panthers 25-13, 25-19, 25-22.
Halle Jansen had 16 kills in three sets as the Mustangs posted a .349 hitting percentage in the match.
Stormi Tadlock had 10 kills to lead Drury. Southwest Minnesota State recorded 17 blocks to Drury's four.
The Mustangs improved to 6-0, while Missouri Western ended the day 1-5, and the Panthers finished Friday's play at 1-5.
The tournament continues tomorrow at the O'Reilly Family Event Center. Drury faces Lake Superior State at 12:30 pm, then Southern Arkansas at 4 pm on Saturday.
