Panthers open GLVC schedule with tie at Quincy

QUINCY, Ill.– The 23rd ranked Drury Panthers opened their Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule with a scoreless tie at Quincy on Sunday afternoon in Quincy, Illinois.

Drury moved 3-0-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the league, while the Hawks went to 0-2-3 and 0-0-1 in the GLVC.

Both goalkeepers were tested in the game as the Panthers put up 18 shots to Quincy's 13. Drury's Kaitlin Knetzke had seven saves and recorded her fifth shutout of the season, while Hawks goalie Olivia Kindt was credited with eight stops.

The Panthers were inches from getting on the board twice in the second half as they saw two of their shots hit the crossbar. Ines Villanueva Casal sent a free kick off the crossbar in the 67th minute, and seven minutes later, Elsa Gonzalez fired a shot that also hit the bar as the Hawks kept Drury off the board. Gonzalez and Tara Simon both had four shots with two on-goal.

The game was completed in 90 minutes as the NCAA removed overtime play this year during the regular season.

The Panthers return to action on Friday, Sept. 16 at William Jewell.
