After dropping two tight games to St. Louis University on Friday and Saturday, the men's hockey team returned to action on Sunday afternoon hosting the Mizzou Tigers to wrap up a three-game opening weekend.
The game started with a high-pace first period that saw both teams exchange chances early. Drury scored late in the first period on a goal by
Tyler Sillanpaa from
Cody Lourenco and
Reily O'Connor. The Panthers held a 1-0 lead into the first intermission from the Sillanpaa goal and 17 saves by freshman goaltender
Josh Robins.
Mizzou tied the contest 1:04 into the second period on an early power play advantage for the Tigers. The game remained tied for much of the second period until
Neil Cerrato netted a power play goal for the Panthers at the 18:47 mark of the period from Sillanpaa and Lourenco.
The Panthers closed out scoring with an unassisted goal by
Reily O'Connor when he stripped the puck from the Mizzou defender and buried the puck in the net. Robins backstopped the win with 44 saves on 45 shots. The Panthers went 1 for 5 on the power play while Mizzou recorded a power play goal on 4 opportunities.
Up next, the Panthers will gear up for the program's first road trip with a three-game series in Shreveport, LA against East Texas Baptist University September 30 through October 2.
