SPRINGFIELD, Mo – Drury Men's Lacrosse Head Coach has announced the addition of Uli Gulje to the Men's Lacrosse staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
When asked about his addition to the staff at Drury, Gulje said:
"I am stoked that Coach Rich has given me the opportunity to work with him and Coach Geiger at Drury. I'm ready to give back to the game I've grown to love, and to continue to grow in my connection with the Springfield community."
Coach Gulje (pronounced "Ghoul-yay") was born and raised in California, where he played for the storied collegiate prep program at Cate School in Carpineria. Gulje began playing in 1988 as a freshman in high school, and quickly developed a love for the sport.
After high school, Gulje played collegiately at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA. Cal Poly has long had a strong lacrosse program in the MCLA, and Gulje was able to further develop his passion for the game.
In 2000, Gulje moved to Springfield, where he started working as a firefighter for the Springfield Fire Department. In 2023, Gulje retired from the Fire Department, after serving 23 years and attaining the rank of Captain. Gulje has plans to return to school to get his masters degree in counseling and plans to work with firefighters and others first responders who suffer from PTSD.
Gulje is a proud dad to 2 boys and resides in downtown Springfield. In his free time he enjoys smoking meats, brewing his own beer, and hosting game nights in various places around Springfield.
