SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury and Upper Iowa traded second-half goals and battled to a 2-2 on Friday at Harrison Stadium in Springfield.
The Panthers went to 1-4-4 and 1-2-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Peacocks moved their record to 4-2-2 and 1-2-2 in the league.
After a scoreless first half, Drury struck first as
Jacob Schmidt scored in the 60
th minute on a corner kick with an assist from
Jason Puente. The goal was Schmidt's second of the year. Upper Iowa responded less than two minutes later, as Frider Blunck put in his fourth goal of the season and evened the game.
Drury took the lead back in the 84
th minute. JJ Adikwu got his first goal of the year with assists from Puente and
Lui Bull.
Once again, the Peacocks answered and, in the 86
th minute, tied the game again on a goal from Wilmer Canales.
Both teams threatened in the final four minutes as each team's goalkeeper had a save down the stretch, but the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Drury had a 23-11 advantage in shots, but both teams had seven shots on goal in the contest. Puente, a senior from Monett, ended the game with two assists.
The Panthers are back on their home field on Sunday when they host Truman State at 2:30 pm at Harrison Stadium.
