Panthers extend unbeaten streak with win over Upper Iowa

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– The Drury Panthers scored four times in the first half and ran their unbeaten streak to eight games with a 5-1 win over Upper Iowa on Friday at Harrison Stadium in Springfield, Missouri.

Drury improved to 7-1-1 and 4-0-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Peacocks dropped to 1-6-1 and 0-3-1 in the league.

The Panthers scored 1:12 into the game as Audrey Camargo put a header into the net off of a corner kick for her first goal of the year. Drury scored again 16 minutes later as Elsa Gonzalez split two defenders down the middle of the field and notched her first goal of the season to put the Panthers ahead 2-0.

Danielle Buker, a freshman from Jefferson City, had a goal and two assists in the game and gave Drury a 3-0 with her second goal of the year in the 28th minute. Jenna Peterson added another goal just before halftime giving the Panthers a 4-0 lead at the intermission.

Ines Villanueva Casal scored her second of the year early in the second half to put Drury ahead 5-0.

Upper Iowa got on the board in the 66th minute to snap Drury's six-game shutout streak as Giovanna Garcia scored her first goal of the year.

Drury's five goals were the most they've scored in a game since Sept. 8, 2017, when they defeated Wisconsin-Parkside 5-0.

The Panthers are back at home on Sunday when they host Truman State at noon at Harrison Stadium.
