ST. LOUIS, Mo.– Drury rebounded from an opening day loss with a 2-1 win over Northwest Missouri State on Sunday at the Lou Fusz Soccer Complex in St. Louis.
The Panthers evened their record to 1-1, while the Bearcats went to 0-1-1.
Northwest Missouri State, a team that reached the second round of the NCAA-II Tournament last year, got on the board first scoring in the 19
th minute as Kaylie Rock raced past two Drury defenders and put in her second goal of the season.
Drury answered six minutes later, though, as
Christine Harpe pushed in a goal in a scrum in front of the net with an assist from
Danielle Buker.
The Panther took the lead in the 27
th minute as
Mel Schneider fired in a shot with an assist from
Ines Villanueva Casal.
Drury owned a 2-1 lead at halftime and kept the pressure on Northwest Missouri State with eight shots in the second half. The Bearcats made a late push, getting three shots and a corner kick in the last seven minutes.
The Panthers hung on and goalkeeper
Kaitlin Knetzke (1-1) picked up the win. Drury owned a 13-5 shot advantage in the game.
Drury is back on the field next weekend when they take on Eastern New Mexico on Sept. 8 in Kearney, Neb.
