CLARION, Pa.— Drury's
Israel Zavaleta swept the diving events in two events in Clarion, Pa., this weekend as the Panthers competed in their first diving competition of the 2024-25 season. Zavaleta took first in the one-meter and three-meter events in the Don Leas Invitational on Friday, then won both diving events at the Clarion Fall Classic the following day.
On Friday, Zavaleta finished first among 16 divers in the one-meter event with 530.1 points. The Mexico City native and graduate transfer from Kenyon College also won the three-meter event with a total of 325.8 points.
Carter Austin, making his collegiate debut, was 13
th in the one-meter competition (297.4) and 12
th in the three-meter event (236.36).
At the Clarion Fall Classic on Saturday, Zavaleta had a total of 462.15 points on the one-meter board to win in a field that featured 17 divers. His fourth win the weekend came in the three-meter event as he topped a field of 15 competitors with a score of 328.8. Austin was 14
th in the three-meter event with 197.3 points.
Claire Garrelts from the Drury women's team was sixth among 22 divers in the one-meter event in Friday's Don Leas Invitational. The freshman from Overland Park, Kan., posted a score of 328.25. Annamarie Lewis was eighth (288.05), and Madison Rogers was ninth (284.85).
Rogers was Drury's best finisher in the three-meter competition as she came in 14
th in a field of 20 with 153.3 points. Garrelts was 15
th (145.65), and Lewis was 17
th (131.6).
In the Clarion Fall Classic on Saturday, Madison Rogers was 12
th among 20 divers in the three-meter event with 162.6 points. Garrelts was 14
th (162.6) and Lewis came in 17
th (138.7).
Drury's full swimming & diving teams compete again on Oct. 25 in a dual against Missouri State at Hammons Student Center in Springfield.
