SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– A second half goal by
Bella Hernandez and a lock-down defense by 17
th ranked Drury guided the Panthers past Truman State 1-0 on Friday afternoon at Harrison Stadium in Springfield.
The win was Drury's fifth straight and lifted their record to 11-1-2 and 9-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Truman State dropped to 3-5-4 and 2-4-3 in the GLVC.
The Panthers not only shut out the Bulldogs, they denied Truman State from getting a single shot as Drury owned a 17-0 advantage in shots and had nine on goal.
After a scoreless first half,
Bella Hernandez notched the game's lone goal as she got on the board in the 57
th minute. A corner kick set up a scramble in front of the net and Hernandez put in her second goal of the year.
Elena Perez had the assist, her seventh of the year.
Truman State goalkeeper Tatumn Damron kept her team in the game with seven saves and the Bulldogs had one team save, but Drury managed to control the contest on their offensive side of the field.
The win clinches a GLVC tournament berth for the Panthers and keeps Drury in first place in the league standings.
The Panthers are at home again on Sunday when they host Quincy at noon at Harrison Stadium.
