KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Drury scored two early goals and held off Rockhurst for a 3-2 win in Kansas City, Missouri, on Friday night.
The Panthers improved to 6-5-4 and 4-5-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Hawks dropped to 3-8-2 and 3-6-2 in the GLVC.
Drury scored twice in the first six minutes of regulation.
Mason Platts got the Panthers on the board in the fourth minute. Taking advantage of a Rockhurst turnover, Platts got around the Hawks goalkeeper and put in his fourth goal of the year. Drury scored again two minutes later off a corner kick. Lucas Scholfield gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead, scoring his fourth goal of the season, while Nathan Louge earned the assist.
Rockhurst pulled within a goal on a penalty kick by Jacopop Belardo in the 20
th minute.
The Panthers played shorthanded for nearly 70 minutes after being issued a red card on the play that set up the Hawks penalty kick, but Drury added to their lead with a penalty kick in the second half.
Joe Loughnane notched his fourth goal of the year and converted on his second penalty kick of the season in the 58th minute.
The Hawks pulled back within one, scoring in the 88th minute on a goal by Blake Barrick, but the Panthers hung on for a 3-2 win. Drury goalie
Camden Meyer 24 shots and made four saves on seven shots on goal from Rockhurst.
Drury continues their road trip on Sunday when they travel to William Jewell for a 2:30 pm kickoff in Liberty, Missouri.
