SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury women's soccer opens the weekend with a 1-0 win over Indianapolis at home.
Â
An aggressive first half for Drury saw ten shots for the Panthers. Four of them were from
Tara Simon, however, Simon was not able to find the net. In the 22nd minute, Simon dribbled down the left side of the field when she crossed it to the middle of the box to
Kourtney Tucker for a header and the lead. That would be all for action in the first half. The second half was similar with Drury testing the Indy goalkeeper. The Greyhounds had one opportunity all game and it came in the 57th minute. A foul in the box gave Indianapolis a penalty kick. On the attempt,
Katy Fitzler punches out of the way and gets her lone save of the afternoon.
Â
The Panthers totaled 20 shots with 12 of them on net.
Holland Hawkins led the team with three on net followed by
Ines Villanueva Casal with two. Fitzler faced one shot the whole day, as a strong defensive effort by
Rachel Dzarnowski,
Audrey Camargo, and
Andrea Camargo helped Drury.
Â
Drury returns to action on Sunday at noon against Illinois-Springfield at Harrison Stadium.
