Drury finishes season in loss to UMSL

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drury Volleyball ended their season with a 3-0 loss to Missouri – St. Louis (UMSL) in St. Louis on Saturday.

UMSL started the first set up 7-2, before the Panthers went on their own 7-2 run to knot it up at nine a piece. Drury would continue a hot streak scoring seven straight points and moving their advantage to 17-11. The Tritons kicked it into gear after that spurt by the Panthers, ending the set on their own 17-9 run to win 28-26. The second set saw Drury start off strong again getting off to an 8-3 lead. With some back and forth between both squads, the Panthers took a 19-11 lead. The Tritons flipped the switch once again and went on a 14-4 run and stole the second set from Drury. The third set was more competitive at the start with no team pulling away by more than two points until UMSL went on a mini 5-1 run and took a 20-16 lead. The deficit was too much, and the Tritons won the final set, 25-19.

Kayli Duncan led Drury with 16 kills, four block assists, and a block solo. Grace Gardner, filling in for the injured Lauren Tyler, recorded 30 assists in her second start as a setter. Mailie Chretien had 22 digs. Payton Mitchell, Kim Quinit, and Jenna LaBarge, each also reached double digit digs.

With the loss to Missouri – St. Louis, Drury was eliminated from any potential berth into the conference postseason. The Panthers finished the season 14-13 and 4-9 in league play. The 14 wins was the most by any Drury team since the 2019 season when the team went 17-16. The Panthers will graduate three players from this season's team in Kayli Duncan, Kaitlin Fasbender, and Kaitlyn Witthar. Duncan will finish her career as 10th leading blocker in Drury history with 277 in her career.
