Tyler Harris finishes near top third of runners at NCAA-II Cross Country National Championship

SACRAMENTO, Calif.– Drury sophomore Tyler Harris became Drury's first men's cross country runner to represent the program at the NCAA-II Championship since 2010 and produced a strong performance on the national stage on Saturday.
 
Harris was 89th in a field of 261 national qualifiers, placing the Springfield-Kickapoo product among the top 34 percent of finishers in the national meet, held at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento, California. Harris had a time of 31:15.4 in the 10-kilometer race. His time marked a personal best, is the second-best 10-k time in program history, and missed a program record by eight seconds.
 
William Amponsah from West Texas A&M won the individual national championship with a time of 29:40.8, winning by more than five seconds.
 
Colorado School of Mines won the team national championship by three points. Their 63 points had them just in front on Wingate's total of 66.   
 
Tyler Harris was Drury's first men's cross country national qualifier since 2010. Drury's team reached the 2010 national championship meet and Harris received Drury's first individual at-large bid since Jamie Villa Zapatero in 2009.
