EVANSVILLE, Ind.— Drury women's swimmer
Mellie Wijk was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Swimmer of the Year and men's swimmer
Ivan Adamchuk was selected as the Freshman of the Year following the 2024 GLVC Championships in Evansville, Indiana on Saturday.
Wijk won six gold medals and one silver and helped the Drury women's swimming & diving team to their eighth GLVC championship in 11 years. The junior from Stockholm, Sweden, took first place in the 200 Individual Medley, the 100 Fly, the 200 Fly, and the 200 Breaststroke. Wijk was also part of three relay wins, taking first in the 800 Free Relay, the 400 Medley Relay, and the 400 Free Relay.
Ivan Adamchuk was named Freshman of the Year as he earned five medals and won two events. Adamchuk, a native of Belarus, won the 200 Individual Medley and the 200 Backstroke. He was the runner-up in the 100 Back and the 400 Medley Relay team. Adamchuk earned a bronze medal on the 800 Free Relay team and picked up points for Drury with a ninth-place finish in the 200 Free. The Panthers finished third as a team at the GLVC championships and were just 22.5 points away from first place Indianapolis.
Both Drury swim teams compete on Saturday when they host the Last Chance Qualifier at 1 pm in the Breech Pool.
