Drury opens spring schedule with 7th place finish at Natural State Invitational

CABOT, Ark.— Drury opened their spring season with a seventh-place finish in a 12-team field at the Natural State Invitational, hosted by Harding at the par-72, 5,915-yard Cypress Creek Golf Course in Cabot, Arkansas, on Tuesday. 
 
The Panthers finished the tournament with a +64, 640 and rallied in the final seven holes to get past Southern Arkansas by two strokes to finish seventh. Seventh ranked Central Missouri won the tournament, shooting a six-over-par, 582. Rogers State was 14 shots back in second, and Arkansas Tech came in third with a +24, 600.
 
Scores went up on the tournament's second day. Taryn Overstreet ended the event as Drury's best finisher as the senior from Jackson, Missouri, finished tied for 36th with a 14-over-par, 158. Reagan Martin tied for 38th (+15, 159), and Grace Stafford had Drury's best second round score, shooting a nine-over-par 81 to finish tied for 41st with a +16, 160. Jade Carter came in 50th, shooting a +19, 163 for the tournament.
 
Haley Jones from Central Missouri won the tournament's individual title, posting a one-under-par 143, finishing two strokes ahead of Ellen Spigner of Arkansas Tech, who came in second.
 
The Panthers compete again March 10-12 at the Emerald Coast Collegiate Tournament, hosted by Missouri-St. Louis in Miramar Beach, Florida.
