Drury races past Southwest Baptist

BOLIVAR, Mo.— The Drury Lady Panthers won their eighth straight game with a 102-70 win at Southwest Baptist on Saturday afternoon in Bolivar, Missouri.

Drury raised their record to 16-4 and 11-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Southwest Baptist fell to 8-12 and 4-10 in the GLVC.

The Lady Panthers raced to a 31-17 lead after one quarter and were up 52-28 at halftime.

"I think it started at the tip for us," said Drury head coach Kaci Bailey. "There's a tipoff play that they like to run; we anticipated that and picked it off on the first play, and I think that set the tone. That first half was special."

Sophomore Reese Schaaf tallied her 10th double-double of the year as she scored 21 points and matched a career with 17 rebounds. The reigning GLVC Player of the Week was also 8 for 11 from the field, made her only three-point attempt, and added three steals.

Caitlynn Daniels had 20 points and six assists, and Makaiya Brooks came off the bench to drop in 19 points with five three-pointers.

"Makaiya ended up with six boards, and she guarded a little bit and gave us some defense," said Bailey. "Her play was huge because Anna Hitt got two fouls in the first quarter, and Beth (Matas Martin) got two fouls early, too. We needed her, Quincy Erickson, and some others off the bench as we had to deal with foul trouble. SBU made more free throws than we attempted, but we handled it."

The Bearcats were 23 for 32 from the foul line, while the Lady Panthers went 14 for 18.

Drury shot 59 percent in the game, hitting 38 of 64 shots, and they were 12 for 22 from three-point range. The Bearcats shot 30 percent, going 21 for 59.

The Lady Panthers surpassed the 100-point mark for the third time this season. Drury's 12 three-pointers matched a season-high.

Karlee Holland led Southwest Baptist with 13 points.

The Lady Panthers return to the court on Thursday with a 5:15 pm game at Rockhurst.
