Drury men's team in second, women's squad tied for second at NCAA-II Championships

GENEVA, Ohio— Both the Drury men's swimming & diving team is in second place, and the DU women's squad is tied for second after the first full day of competition at the NCAA-II Championships at the SPIRE Aquatic Center in Geneva, Ohio on Wednesday.
 
The Drury women's team has 124.5 points and is tied for second with Colorado Mesa. Nova Southeastern leads the women's championship with 155 points.
 
The DU men's squad has 135 points and trails Tampa by 33 points. Indianapolis is in third with 122 points. 
 
Men's Highlights
  • Drury had three swimmers in the top eight of the 200 Individual Medley and had Joao Nogueira finish second and Ivan Adamchuk won the consolation race to finish ninth. Nogueira posted a time of 1:43.78 to be the national runner-up in the event and was 1.14 seconds off the winning time. Alejandro Villarejo was fifth (1:44.76) and Davi Mourao was sixth (1:45.61). Adamchuk won the consolation race with a time of 1:45.41
  • Cole Earl finished fourth in the one-meter diving competition as the fifth-year senior Springfield-Glendale racked up 511.25 points
  • Matteo Vissotto was 15th in the 1000 Free, posting a time of 9:13.50
  • Yuri Cabral came in 10th in the 50 Free (19.64)
  • Drury's 200 Medley Relay finished fifth in a tightly contested race. Viktor Khnykin, Mourao, Villarejo, and Lucas Minuer, had a time of 1:25.69. Indianapolis won with NCAA-II record time of 1:24.49 and the top five teams were all within 1.23 seconds of one another
 
Women's Highlights
  • The Panthers had three finish in the top eight of the 200 IM as Mellie Wijk, who last month won GLVC Women's Swimmer of the Year honors, placed fourth with a time of 1:59.70. Claire Conover was sixth (2:00.82), and Aurora Duncan was seventh (2:01.38)
  • Ashlyn Moore tied for sixth in the 50 Free with a time of 23.01, while Josie Bushell won the consolation race to finish ninth with a time of 23.07
  • Drury's 200 Medley Relay team tied for sixth as Lexie Waller, Conover, Anastasiya Yermishyna, and Mariana Alencar combined for a time of 1:41.35 and finished even with Northern Michigan
 
The NCAA-II Championships continue on Thursday morning with the preliminary heats of the 100 Butterfly at 9 am (CT) in Geneva, Ohio.
